Volunteer

We need your help. The people of Ethiopia need you. There is an immense amount of gratifying service you can provide, as a volunteer, for Ethiopia Healthcare Network. Below are a number of illustrative job descriptions in three main mission areas. Volunteer work is subject to approval and supervision by EHN officers.

Your service will require energy, innovation, accuracy, independence, and great partnership skills. To volunteer or for information, please send a note to volunteer@ethiopiahealth.org. Thank you.

Program and Research

  • Assistant Treasurer Routine account reconciliation and tax filing.
  • Case Data Review and Analysis You will review abstracted (non-confidential) patient case data, analyze the data, present findings of your analysis, and summarize data for publication.
  • Program Liaison/Global Health Initiative You will track information about the US Global Health Initiative and work to assess alignment with EHN programs.
  • Comparative Research/Best Practices for Community Health You will review EHN’s programs and research comparable programs to identify best practices, areas for EHN improvement, and opportunities for partnership.
  • Public Health/Amharic A proficient speaker of Amharic, you will help with communications and research on news and events in Ethiopia. You will also help to build and maintain liaison with the Ethiopian community in the United States.
  • Public Health/Nutrition Nutrition is cited by multiple sources, including EHN’s Medical Director and the Organization for Social Services for AIDS, as the single most important cofactor for our target population’s medical success. You will review primary sources, including material from EHN partners in Ethiopia, to develop program information and, potentially, advocacy material and solutions.

Fundraising

  • Grant Writer You will research, propose, and support grant-writing.
  • Event Volunteer You will help EHN to stage fundraising and public information events. For example, on May 20, 2010, we are conducting a fundraiser at the Embassy of Ethiopia in Washington, DC.
  • Event Manager You will propose, design and run fundraising events, such as the “event-in-a-box” program, where EHN has informal fundraising nights at area restaurants.
  • Viral Marketing Czar Using tools such as Facebook and related social media, you will design, review and carryout an Internet-based advocacy and information program.

Communications

  • Multimedia Developer You will draw upon a breadth of photographic and written material to develop stunning visuals advocating EHN. It would be great, for example, to have a world-class multimedia loop for EHN events and in ‘drop-off’ information kiosks.
  • Correspondence Manager You will write letters thanking donors, introducing EHN to prospective partners and contributors, and other positive program support.
  • Writer You will write articles, press releases, and develop collateral material.
  • Art Coordinator/Display Developer You will develop informational and art displays for use at Washington, DC, area venues such as the World Bank and coffee houses.
